Thank you!!!
in reply to: Openers & Last Minute Adjustments #24786Hey Murph,
Thanks for the feedback! A handler at the meet would actually be great, given I have no idea what to expect.
The attempts you gave seem a little conservative. Is there a reason you suggest newcomers aim to go 9/9 for their first meet? Maybe it’s just my ego, but I feel like I could put an extra 10lbs on those openers 🙂
Thanks!!
in reply to: Squat Programming Tweaks #24733Cool, let’s aim for today at 12h30. Thanks for meeting with me!
in reply to: Squat Programming Tweaks #24731Hey Murph,
I usually train very early, but am happy to make it in whenever you have a free half hour or so. When would be easiest for you?
in reply to: Squat Programming Tweaks #24729Should also mention the pain is almost entirely at the squat lockout and walkback, which leads me to think that it’s probably a hip flexor strain/overuse issue.
in reply to: Beginner Powerlifting 2A W3 #24217Thanks Murph – maxes on all three lifts are something like 385/250/445, but both squat and bench are from before the pandemic. The numbers you supplied look much more reasonable – I’ll give them a try next week
in reply to: Beginner Powerlifting 2A Week 2 #24141Hey Murph, thanks as usual for the feedback! For bench, my legs are at maybe a 30 degree angle to the bench. Definitely not touching it.
I’ve been advised at bench days at TPS in the past that keeping my legs in front might help, but never found that I was able to feel super stable that way. Perhaps it’s worth revisiting now that I am re-learning leg drive.
in reply to: Beginner Powerlifting 2A W1 #24137Thanks Murph – My grip gave out on the very last rep. Have been holding onto the bar for 2s or so between reps, which is where it gave out.
WRT openers – there’s no meet planned, I was planning to do a mock meet as prescribed for W3 of the 2A block. Does that change anything with respect to the openers?
in reply to: Beginner Powerlifting 2A W1 #24134Also, looking forward to next week’s bodybuilding workout (Beginner Powerlifting 2A W2D4), I want to makes sure I do things right – is the idea to do 20 minutes of sled drags, and then lateral raises, OHPs, and curls? Any rep ranges?
in reply to: Beginner Powerlifting 1B W4 #24125Thanks Murph – by “drive into the bench”, do you mean apply force through my ass into the bench?
in reply to: Beginner Powerlifting 1B W2 #24079Thanks for the feedback, as usual! Unfortunately will be traveling the weekend of the meet and won’t be able to make it 🙁
My plan instead is to do some sort of mock meet around when the program expects a competition. Hoping to get close to a 1200lb total
in reply to: Beginner Powerlifting 1B W1 #24061Oh, followup question – my grip has been giving me trouble on deadlifts recently. What is your preferred grip accessory to bring that up to snuff?
in reply to: Beginner Acclimation 1B W4 #23857Hey Murph, the pain is almost entirely gone today so it shouldn’t be an issue moving forward. I did a lot of band good mornings and stretches and that seems to have resolved it – probably just an overuse strain
Good to know on the RPE front – I’ll lower the weight for sets @ 6 moving forward
in reply to: Beginner Acclimation 1B W2 #23779Thank you Murph – I’ll try and prioritize recovery and see if I can adapt a little faster
For context, these are last week’s:
