Hello everybody. My name’s Jedd Johnson. I’m from Diesel Crew, and love all strength sports, especially Strongman and Grip. Here’s a little story… I first met Murph in 2003 at his Massachusetts Strongest Man Contest. We got to his parking lot, saw his familiar goatee-covered chin and said, “Hey is this TPS?” He then greeted us back with “What the f*ck do you think?” I knew Murph was my kinda guy ever since!

So check this out. Over the years, Murph has helped me out a ton. He taught me proper log press technique, shared info with me on stone training, and gave me countless other tips on strongman, strength training in general, and how to grow my business. So I figured it was about time I give something back to the big guy. Here’s the plan. Murph said he could use some articles, so I’m going to be writing a monthly column for Murph’s newsletter and website.

My plan with this is to provide good solid information that is going to help you all out with your training goals. Whether it’s getting stronger, getting leaner, finishing an event quicker, or developing a stronger Grip, I’m here to help out as much as I can. Speaking of Grip strength, here’s a little bit about me. I started training seriously for strength and size in 1998. I bounced back and forth between bodybuilding, powerlifting and Olympic lifting for a few years in the pursuit of developing a training approach that would help athletes of all sports. Then in 2002 I found out about Strongman and Grip Strength competitions. I was hooked on both from the get-go, but had to retire from Strongman after a few back injuries. In 2006, I hung up my Rehband compression shorts and moved onto Grip Strength full time as my addictive competitive fix.

But here’s the thing. I still LOVE studying all other types of strength and conditioning disciplines. Pretty much, if you can name a way that people train, I have done it at one time or another. I love it all and I love talking about it and writing about it. Now, here’s one thing I do want to tell you. If you’re looking for a bunch of science and terminology, then I’m sorry. I don’t try to mystify anybody with jargon that requires you to Google half the words in my articles. I speak from experience and I write with the intent to reach everybody, from the high school beginner to the college student-athlete, to the professors and historians. I want to help people with my tips and support, not dazzle people with my vocabulary. So, here’s my promise. My writing is going to be fun and exciting. You’re going to learn things that you can apply in your training right away.

My goal is to help you out. That’s my promise to you! Aside from that I have just one favor to ask. If you have any questions about a certain topic that you have been unable to find the answer for, please let me know in the comments below.

There are no stupid questions, either my friends. Chances are, if you are puzzled about it, someone else is too! So if there’s something on your mind, please let me know and I will tackle it. Alright! That’s about it for my introduction. For now, keep up the good work in your training, and we’ll see you here next month. In the meantime, I invite you to check out our website, http://www.dieselcrew.com.
