Last month Jason F., Zbins (Murph’s note: What kind of name is Zbins and who gave him that name?) and I went down to the RPS Supreme Iron Warrior World Championships in Newark NJ for a little powerlifting weekend.

We took the Challenger down to Dirty Jersey. On the way we stopped at Rein’s Deli somewhere off I84 in CT. If you haven’t been there you’ve got to go. We all had triple-decker sandwiches with dessert.

Traffic was light and we arrived in Newark around 9:00 p.m. Saturday. The meet was held in the Ramada Hotel. They have gated parking, great service, and the rooms are well maintained with a restaurant / bar onsite.

With the meet starting early the next morning we decided to order pizza and eat in the room. Afterward Jason and Binz took their ZMA and were off into dreamland and I stayed up to watch TV. Not able to sleep most of the night, I just tried to rest and relax as much as possible. All in all I must have slept 2-3 hours that night.

Meet day was here and we made our way down to weigh-ins. Jason weighed in somewhere in the mid-300’s and I weighed in at 269lbs.

The meet was held in one of the hotel’s ballrooms. The room was very nice and well laid-out. There was plenty of room in the warm-up area with about 30 lifters competing on this day. There were two flights (groups of lifters) Jason was in flight one and I was in flight two. Binz was able to handle both of us without a hitch.

All in all, the meet went great Jason went 8 for 9, setting three World Records and I went 9 for 9. Jason’s Lifts were 525 World Record (WR) Squat, 400 Bench, and 557.5 WR Deadlift, for a 1485.5 WR Total in the AM Raw Classic Sub Master Division.

I went 700 Squat, 465 Bench, 615 Pull ,for a 1780 Total (110 lb. meet PR) in the PRO Multi-Ply Open Division.

Thanks to everyone who helped get us this far.

Many more lifters from TPS will be competing later this month in Attenborough, Mass, at the 16th Annual RPS Power Challenge on Oct 20 and 21st.

The RPS meets are always well-run. If you are thinking of doing a meet I would highly recommend one of Gene’s Meets–you can get more info at Rychlakpowersystems.com.

Until next month,

Wishing you the best in your training,
