Five quick tips for a successful first powerlifting meet

1. Know the rules. In order to prepare you must know the rules of the federation that you are competing in.

2. Make your openers easy! You should be able to take reps with your opener (3-5 for first time meet goers ). The opener if the first lift of the squat, bench and dead lift. There are three attempts in each lift you must complete one lift for each category in order to complete. Many first-time lifters open way too heavy and end up not completing.

3. Have a coach. A great coach has been there before you. They know the terrain and will help you through the unknown.

4. Get to the meet early. Time will fly when the day gets started. Get your warm-ups in and stay ahead of the pack.

5. Have Fun! Remember it’s just lifting weights.
