It is time for the second installment of Made in America. I have been on a “buy American” kick for as long as I can remember. Lately, it has gotten worse/better. It seems like it is impossible to find something made in the greatest country on Earth. It is not impossible, it just takes work.

The reasons to buy American are many. A strong nation has a strong economy, and a strong economy is at least partially related to Gross Domestic Product (GDP). When we ship our manufacturing overseas we take jobs away from Americans, lowering GDP. Everyone knows someone who is out of work, I am sure. A lot of people complain about it but they don’t know what to do about it. One simple thing that everyone can do is to buy as many products made in America that they can, and you can go a step further and buy products made locally, if that is possible. This will not fix all of our economic problems, but it will help. One person can make a difference. If you spread the word, it might catch on, like in the song Alice’s Restaurant by Woody Guthrie. I’m showing my age with that one.

With that said, this month’s product is boring but necessary. I’m going to tell you about socks. Everyone needs them and good socks are awesome. I love the feel of a brand new pair of socks. Think this is weird? The next time you take a pair of good socks out of the package and wear them for the first time, see how your feet feel. It is great. Even better after a hard training session—ahhhh.

How many of you buy brand name sports socks like Nike or Underarmor? Quite a few, I’ll bet.Well, they are not made in America. You are shipping jobs overseas every time you buy a pair. Try Fox River Mills next time.

I’ve got a bunch of them and they are without a doubt the best socks that I have ever purchased. Fox River Mills socks are available at a bunch of stores locally. They have a store locator on their website. You can also buy them online if you hate shopping.

They are also made proudly in America, by Americans. I will continue to do my part to strengthen the U.S. economy by purchasing goods made in the U.S.A., I hope you do, too.
