When the weather is cold and the sweaters are on, it’s easy to let a training session slide here or there. The net result of these “no shows” eventually will add up to a loss of strength and conditioning.
For years I “tried” to begin new training sessions that would only last for 30 to 60 day spans. Then “life” would take me back to where I was comfortable.
What helped me to break through these flirtations with physical fitness? What I did was make a decision to “show up” at the gym, no matter what. You can do the same.
Training as we know it is not comfortable-that is why we call it training. Training takes us out of our normal comfort zone and into new realms of existence. Eventually, we can get comfortable in these new realms. When this has happened, our training has helped us expand our individual comfort zone. This is personal development. Simple, really.
So, back to the main point: In order for us to have these training breakthroughs we have to show up for them to happen. We have to accumulate some time under the bar or in the classes in order to reap the benefits consistency has to offer.
