Hello everyone, My name is Cecil Richards. I am originally from Lubbock, but I am in the military so I am currently living in Fayetteville, NC. I am training for powerlifting right now. I have not been on the platform in a little over 3 years, but I am looking forward to competing again. I competed in numerous meets in THSPA in high school and won 1 state title, and one state runner-up. I also went on to compete in USAPL and obtained a state title, and a 2nd at USAPL nationals. The last meet I competed in was the IPF Equipped World Bench Press Championships 2016 in Rodby, Denmark. I competed in the 83kg class, Sub-junior division, and took second place with a 182.5 kg bench press. The biggest reason I have not competed is because of joining the army and getting stationed overseas. I joined the TPS Method because it seemed like the best bang for my buck and also had an option for equipped powerlifting. I never have competed Raw, though I’ve been training raw for quite some time now. Equipped powerlifting is where my heart is though, and I’m excited to see if this will get me to the next level.

Cecil. Awesome to have you as a member here. Seems like you’ve already got some accolades to work with. We are here to answer any questions you have about your training, technique or equipment. As you plan to get back on the platform do you think you will be starting with an equipped meet or a raw meet to get your feet wet again?

I am thinking about competing in a raw meet. I’ve always wondered how I would fare raw and it seems like there are more competitors in the raw division across all of the federations. I also have the problem now for choosing the right federation. I want to be in a federation that uses the monolift, squat bar, deadlift bar, etc. any guidance on that?

That can be a tricky game to play. I would recommend looking at meets that are near you and near is determined by how far you are willing to travel. I know RPS and SPF will meet you equipment needs but I don’t know off the top of my head when or where the closest meets to you will be.
You can look at RPS here and SPF here
