So I tried out the squat shoes today, that was quite an experience. Did some front squats and could barely handle an empty bar. What am I doing wrong here?

This could be a whole article.
Weightlifting shoes can be tricky to learn.

You have to make sure you REALLY root hard and keep the heel locked in.
The heel pushes you forward a little until you master the shoes.

You can see that your knees are travelling forward (which they should) but in an awkward way.

Next time, set up, root hard and open the knees and sit straight down.
If you are able to keep the root, your knees will travel forward normally, not herky jerky as they do here.

      Changing equipment always present challenges.
You have to learn to use it. These shoes are no different.

Thanks a lot, that’s really helpful to start. The shoes feel a lot different, but I feel like in a good way. You can push hard against the strap.

I should have done some sets in the Vans and seen how they felt, that was a good move from the Chucks at least.
