Its always hard to tell watching unless I can ask you what you are doing because it looks like a difficult touch. A lot of the time when we are lifting especially in gear, we get tight balance the weight and let gravity take the weight down for us. As long as we have enough control when we get to the bottom this usually works out and we can stand/press the weight back up. With gear though we need to work with gravity to get the weight down. Think about a reverse band bench row (click for video). That is what you should be doing to get the bar down to your chest. You and gravity are working together against the shirt to pull the weight down to your chest in just the right spot. If you are already doing that then yes maybe the shirt it too tight to touch with that weight or maybe you just need a stronger back so you can row down against that shirt tension.

Nice control, it’s not easy to try to touch with light weight. Something I like to do is use boards till I get to a weight I can touch with instead of having to fight the shirt that much. Sounds like to figured out 205 was a better number to work with, so next time us a 1 or 2 board for the 185 and make your life a touch easier lol. Like Matt said you want to be working with a weight that will keep the groove right, rowing it in, if you use too light a weight you are having to do things that you wouldn’t do with the heavy weight, and that wouldn’t be good practice. I love grooving a shirt from all angles personally, using different boards and such. Let us know if there’s a day you can come visit and we can help in person also.

Sounds great, Candace! I’ll definitely take you up on that. I’ll reach out to see what may work!
