It took me a long time to figure out that so many of my lifting weak points were related to glute activation issues. Since I now know this, I have been trying to focus a lot more attention on my glutes during my lifts. At lighter weights all is good. But at heavier weights I am becoming more and more aware that I can’t seem to feel/squeeze my left glute during the lift. I’m trying but can only feel the right side responding to my efforts. This applies to squats, deadlifts, good mornings — across the board. I’m not sure if my left side was always a slacker or if it’s just that my recent corrective efforts have been more successful on just the right.
Interested to get some advice about how to approach this problem. Something tells me that it’s more than just an imbalance in muscular development. (Though, I do think that a mild strength imbalance may also be there as a result.) Is there some type of practitioner that would be the right fit for this? Should I just do glute activation drills for the left side only until that side “catches up” in terms of how things fire?
An article I saw suggested I should take the weight down on my lifts and only train as heavy as I can while feeling both sides fire or I risk further strengthening a dysfunctional firing pattern. But, obviously, I’d rather not do that unless it is truly needed.
Anything you can tell me or resources you can point me to would be appreciated. thanks

Always be the WHOLE ASS Gina.
Never half ass.So….with that said. I am not a huge believer in “activation” work.
If your glutes didn’t work, you’d be unable to stand or walk.
So they are activating.
Maybe not as you wish, or in the wrong order. The more we work with RPR, the more we see most if not 100% of these issues are compensation patterns.
I cannot suggest highly enough that you do the RPR Wake Up Drills daily, especially pre training.
Watch this video:
-
After you watch that, watch this:
-
And then……
Get to work on them-every day.We have had countless success stories using this.
It WILL work for you too.RPR makes changes, sometimes drastically and immediately.
Sometimes the changes are smaller and doing the drills daily adds up.
However, I have yet to see anyone not make massive improvements after committing to it.It only takes a few minutes.
We have also shot videos on warm ups with RPR for squat, press and deadlft days.To make it simple, it sounds like your nervous system is not telling your skeletal system what to do in the correct order and something is awry.
RPR will reset it and allow it to do it’s job.
Give this a try for a few weeks,
I am willing to bet you will see BIG changes out of the gate.If it does not give you the desired result, we can look further.
Also, feel free to add this in after RPR:

Christine, that’s interesting that you feel like it helps you go from “eyes half open” to “ready to go.” I’ve been doing it but can’t say I ever feel awake and ready to go until there’s been copious amounts of coffee and/or pre-workout. [#momlife] Not that I really expected to feel woken up literally, I just find it interesting that it is having that effect for you.

Everyone’s RPR experience is different.
Some, many express what Christine said.
Some, may express what G said.
However, most agree that what Christine said is the case when done pre-training.
Unless no coffee was consumed……….
Irregardless (had to use a MAsshole word)- Do it daily and dig in!
