So I started block 2A this week and it’s setting openers for a meet. I surprised myself a lot with my squat, at 125 it was by far more than the 110 I put up the week before.

Here’s my question: I know we are only supposed to go up in weight up to 10% each session, should I just keep doing that? Or is it better to go up more if I can? Thanks a lot.

Christine I think for where you are at as a lifter that adding up to 10% a week is more than enough and might even be too much depending on the sets/reps week to week. The only time we would/could exceed this would be when you test your lifts and the end of 2A.
For example assuming you hit 125 x 3 when you were setting openers we would use 125 lb as your squat opener, then make a 7% jump for the second squat (135) and a 5-7% jump for the third squat (140-145). That would be a way to guarantee you hit all three squats at a meet.

Thanks Matt that answers perfectly. I’ll stay with what I’ve been doing then. I’d rather go conservative and be able to make the lifts at the meet than get crazy and dump when it matters.
