TPS,
My is Kevin from NH. I have been a nutrition client of Murph for about three years and have recently started doing the 6:30 conditioning class with Cody (it’s a absolute ass kicker). I started with TPS to cut weight for potential job, I cut the weight but didn’t get the job. I have been a client ever since and I have been following the programs consistently. I joined the TPS Method because Murph/TPS has never steered me wrong and I needed a change in the weight room.
A little bit about my training background. I have been a lifelong athlete and have been training in the weight room since 2006. In 2009, before my senior year of high school, I had a L4/L5 , L5/S1 disc herniation after some poor training choices. After graduating high school in 2010, I attended Northeastern University and was member of the Track and Field team. Unfortunately my back issues resurfaced and I had to have surgery in 2011. My next two and half years of throwing/training went well until mid Senior year. My back issue resurface again and I was told by the Surgeon that if I continued squatting and deadlifting I would end up on the operating table again.
The reason I mention this is because in training I am hesitant to do back squats/deadlifts due to my back history. Before and after my surgery I had some decent raw numbers (375 bench, 520 squat, 315 clean, never tested deadlift) during college. During college my training program consisted of stretching, prehab, then two heavy lifts and then 2-4 accessory exercises. In the off season we would add mobility and flexibility exercises as well. Since college I have had a training program that I made myself and it had worked for me. It consists of running (distance or 30 min of 200m on/200 off or 300m/100m off), a variation of bench a variation of squat and some accessory exercises. Recently, I realized the routine I made up is not working for me as much as it used to and I am here for some guidance, especially on lifting with a back injury history. Hope to hear from you all soon and feel free to reach out.
