      Hey everyone,

This is the first time I’ve really followed a powerlifting program and undergone a meet prep. It’s kicking my ass for sure. I’m beat up – intensely sore, blood vessels popped in my eye (which I’m sure looked great in my work headahot I got done today). Who else is running this program right now? Are you getting killed along with me?

Day 1 was squats. Definitely the best I’ve done with that weight on my back – obviously tons to clean up with form but I’m proud for at least getting the weight up.

Day 2 was bench. I’m not sure what happened today. I walked in feeling like I was gonna kill it. I crushed the warm ups, took reasonable jumps, and then just crumbled under the weight. Not sure what the issue was but today felt like absolute hot, steamy garbage. I felt my foot come up on a rep or two, I’m not sure what else. I took Matt’s advice from last week and the advice I got this weekend at the seminar into account -or at least I thought I did. Let me know in the videos what you see that I messed up on.

Welcome to powerlifting and our eyes.

First squat video they look a little high, could be the angle.

If they were high, it is ok to lower the weight to ensure depth.

On the bench, if you miss the weight, I suggest lowering it to make sure you get work sets in.

We all have days like this and don’t let it get in your head.

Look at your recovery out of the gym and see what needs to be improved.

As someone who has migrated to the Powerlifting program from Method, I can attest that the program does, indeed, beat the ever loving Jesus out of you. However, your body WILL adjust. As long as I’m eating right, getting proper rest, doing proper warms ups and cool downs, and staying hydrated I can easily make all 3 days (barring any scheduling hiccups).

That being said, everybody’s different. But despite that, you will get accustomed to the program and you WILL get stronger.

      Murph, where’s my $50 now? 😉

      Joe,

      It’s in the mail!

If the program really is beating you up, perhaps you should lighten the accessory work.
This is assuming that your recovery is in order.
