Probably a bit dramatic with my title but today was not my best day in the gym I was tired and everything felt heavy blah blah blah anyways I attempted 240 for a squat double and failed. I’ve hit this number in the past and I know I could hit it on a good day. So my question is should I still go with this number for my second attempt during my competition? Or maybe rethink my opener and back my second attempt off a bit?

      Here’s the thing:
      We all have bad days.
      But.
You can’t let one bad day get in your head (as you said).

The squats did not look as good as usual, but there are many factors to consider as to why?

      Are you eating well
      Are you sleeping well
      Are you hydrated
Is your stress outside the gym too high
      And so many more

Recovery outside the gym affects your performance inside the gym.
It also could have just been a shitty training session.

I’ve had this happen many times going into a meet and ended up doing pretty well the day of.

You will be well rested on meet day and I am willing to bet that it will all come together.

Can you send your prior PR’s (all lifts) at a meet and what you are planing on opening with and I’ll make a few suggestions to ensure success?

I am definitely learning that the more and more I get into this sport! So prior PRs
        Squat: 250
I was planning on opening with 230

Bench: Paused PR is 140 or 145 (can’t remember)
I planned to open with 130 just to play it safe

Deadlift: 315 (this was a gym PR)
        Planning to open with 290

I’m going to let you and Murph figure out the game plan, don’t want too many cooks in the kitchen lol, it’s important Murph knows that all lifts are Gym PR’s, this will be her first meet.

Based off your prior PR’s and your squat video, let’s do this:
      Squat 1: 225
      Squat 2: 245
      Squat 3: 255-265

      Bench 1: 130
      Bench 2: 140
      Bench 3: 145-150

      Deadlift 1: 280
      Deadlift 2: 300
      Deadlift 3: 320

This is your first real meet correct?

If so, I may lower these numbers.

If you are comfortable with these numbers I would go with them.

We typically keep people very conservative at a first meet.

I feel these are numbers you can hit with room to spare.
That is the best way to go at your first meet.

I advise against going any heavier.
Feel free to make smaller jumps if you are feeling nervous.

Or, I can even lower the numbers.

Remember, this is your first meet and all you are trying to do is successfully get a total to build off for the future.

I think I’m comfortable with those numbers! Thank you again for all your help! I’ll probably make a forum post to let you guys know how it goes.
