Okay, so this won’t be a true training journal because I really have no intention of keeping it updated with all my sessions. (Just being honest that I ain’t gonna get to it.) But I will update periodically with a bit of what I’m up to and post video occasionally for form spot checks.

Was already in the middle of another program when I joined this site — 5/3/1 — and I’m not keen on program hopping, so might ride that out a bit longer before I switch. Also, I’m super time crunched so I know it will take me a while to work my way through some of the info on this site. I’ll be slowly incorporating things from this site into what I’m doing now (Two examples: I want to start by trying out some of the RPR stuff and learn to do Turkish get ups — both of which would be totally new for me).

Usually my squat day is the one day a week where I make it to the “real” gym (rather than my basement) so I try to take advantage of the good gym vibes, more equipment to choose from, (usually) being able to get a longer session in, and NO kid interruptions. Oh and early enough that I can down some preworkout as well — always helps. 🙂 Most of my weekly sessions aren’t as good, sadly. Anyhow, I try to get to METfit for the same lift each time if I can help it. At some point, I’ll probably rotate which lift day I do there since that’s bound to be the stuff I make the most progress with.

Would love to get some form feedback on my squats and good mornings.

Squats: This was my last squat set, 195# for AMRAP, got 10.

Good Mornings: This was my last of 4 sets of 12 at 100#.

Also did some SSB squats (just getting back to doing those for the first time in AGES — not used to having access to a SSB bar) and tire flips. Finished off with hanging leg raises and some pull ups in between. (I can’t do pull ups at home so try to work them in here).

by the way, there’s nothing you’re missing with understanding what my training log title is supposed to be. My toddler slapped the keyboard and added the “+/-” and I can’t delete them.

I guess it’s fitting for what it’s like trying to do lifting, or anything related to it, with kids around, right? haha! …and sigh.

      G,

I am psyched to see you training again.

I will watch the videos Monday.
I have learned not to internet after whiskey.

      Squats in video `:
Not too bad but there are a few tings you could clean up.

I strongly suggest that you watch the rooting and bracing videos.

It looks like you can improve technique substantially by getting a strong root, and initiating from the hip as we describe in the video, rather than from the knee.
Bracing properly will also clean it up.

Once we get that fixed, I can add more.

Same thing on the Good Mornings.
      Root/brace.

It appears that you are leaning forward on these as opposed to pushing your butt back.

Work the root/brace to get tighter, and try pushing your butt back as the start of the movement.
At the bottom, your shoulders are a little to afar ahead of the bar-pushing hips back will fix this.

Thanks Murph. I know I’ve lost some competence with certain fundamentals but it sounds like I might need even more work there than I realized.

I did watch the rooting and bracing videos but will make a point to keep re-watching them until I get the those down.

Regarding Good Mornings: I will work on initiating with butt/hips. Didn’t realize I wasn’t doing that. Thanks
